School Visits

When I work on books, I’m always imagining the kids and classrooms these stories will someday reach. So getting to actually visit schools feels so full circle.
I love sharing the journey from sketchbook doodles to published books and showing students that creativity, curiosity, and simply loving to make things can grow into a career.
Most importantly, I hope they leave knowing their ideas matter, mistakes are part of the story, and their voice is worth sharing.

Elementary Schools & Library Visits
Pre-k to 5th Grade
Visits are tailored by grade level and designed to be interactive, visual, and age appropriate.
Typical Visit Format (45–50 minutes)
20 min — Presentation & Introduction
A behind-the-scenes look at my journey as an author and illustrator, the bookmaking process, and how a kid who loves to doodle can grow into a creative career.
Storytime / Featured Book (varies by age group)
For younger grades, I include a picture book read aloud and interactive participation. I’m happy to select the title that best fits your students.
10 min — Interactive Drawing Demo
Students help create characters live through audience participation.
5–10 min — Q&A
Followed by a short break and signing of pre-ordered books (if applicable).
*For older grades (3rd to 5th Graders), I may feature Girls to the Front: 40 Asian American Women Who Blazed a Trail, especially during AAPI Heritage Month, or other titles such as NEW depending on the school’s interests.

Keynote Speaking & College Visits
When speaking with university classes and emerging artists, I often focus on the question many students are asking:
“What happens next?”
I share my personal journey into children’s publishing and how none of it was linear, planned, or set in stone.
My talks center around the idea that this career is deeply heart-based. Longevity doesn’t come from talent alone, but from an artist’s willingness to adapt, evolve, stay curious, and continue growing alongside their art.
